MySpace is finally taking a charge at preventing online sex predators. MySpace is partnering with Sentinal Tech to create a data base with all current sex offenders in order to protect young girls online. Parents and school officials are complteely fed up and worried about the possible online dangers.

It is about tmie that something is done to help prevent online predators from striking time and time again. On the other hand, these young girls should not be posting all of their personal informaion on the internet for all to view. There needs to be a limit in order to help conceal their own identity and personal information.

I am beginning to wonder where all the cases of the older women acting as predators to the younger men are? I don’t know what it is or how many times these online predators will be caught time and time again until they realize that what they are doing is wrong and are endaning these young girls.

On Saturday I woke up to a story on the news reporting that a the NYPS had shot at a man who was leaving a bar late Friday night and was to be wed Saturday to his wife. The man and his four friends were a local bar and also at the bar was a few police officers. An event may have occured inside the bar late Friday night, witnesses have yet to speak, and the two parties left the bar. The next thing event was the shooting. The driver of the vehicle (the man who was to get married that next day) was shot to death with almost 20 bullet wounds and the three other passengers in the car were severely wounded.

This article speaks that the pressure is building on the NYPD to take action on these four officers. Their actions are in the process of being viewed to see if the shootings done by the police officers was justified. The police officers supposedly thought that these group of men had a gun. I don’t care what the situation, no person needs to be shot at twenty times consecutively. Now the end result is death for this innocent man who was supposed to get married that same weekend. If their was a serious problem on hand, a simple shot woud’ve been justified but the policemen assumed a gun was present (later on when the car was searched, a gun was not found on any of the men or in the car) on these young men and took it to the farthest level and killed the man and severely injured his passengers. This situation could’ve been easily avoided if they weren’t discriminated against because they were four black men in a bar.

Officials are still saying that it is too early to determine whether or not the shooting was justified. These supposed “heroic” officers better get what they deserve, because no one in their right mind can justify shooting someone twenty times.

In Tuscaloosa Alabama, the University of Alabama’s campus is debating whether or not the outdoors will be far enough for student and teacher smokers. The campus’s faculty senate is signing off an idea that would ban smokers from smoking within 30 feet of any campus building. Senate Alan Blum warned that forcing people to walk through clouds of smoke on their way inside a building still exposes them to secondhand smoke and is therefore dangerous. The fact that smoking from the outside gets sucked inside through the vents is also debateable.

This is something that needed to be in discussion years ago. I compare smoking on college campuses to smoking in restaurants. At the College of Saint Rose, the signs say “No Smoking” on the patios but the faculty and students do anyways. No one is around to enforce this rule, and whether or not you are a smoker, you are surrounded by it every time you walk outside. I think this needs to be a statewide rule for college campuses. Smoking should be allowed at least 30 feet from the campus and where students and faculty walk on a daily basis.

After reading the first half of this book, this quote said by Ehrenreich in the beginning of her adventure really hit to make this a reality and not just a made up story. Personally, I don’t think I could last more than a week performing to my fullest in a low paying job and getting a paycheck each week that hardly helps to pay anything. Not only is Barbara fufilling this experience to her fullest, she comes to a point where her “previous” life looks strange and abnormal. In the beginning of the book, Barbara makes her transition between the two lifestyles look easy. Originally, her high class lifestlye which revolved around advanced technology is now put into a new perspective and her “previous” life is almost becomming out of reach and hard for her to comprehend now that she is living a life that is on the total opposite end of the spectrum.

Every little detail used in this book really gives me a reality check and makes me think how lucky I am. I could never imagine waitressing every day for my career and then leaving work to go sleep in my van and waking up with the strength to repeat it all over again. It just seems to tough for me to handle, knowing I would never advance in society with the skills taken from waitressing.

McDonalds, Coca Cola, and Campell Soup announced that they now begi to promote healthy food and exercise to young children. These companies agreed to limit their use of outside characters to promote unhealthy food and will now use half of their ads to focus on foods that qualify as healthy and nutritous foods and exercise activities.Yet, these companies say they will still promote their sugary food items and critics are quick to say that this will have little effect to encourage young kids to eat healthier. The companies announcement came after five big snack food companies
agreed to restrictions on what they will sell in schools as there is a national
concern about childhood obesity mounts.

Childhood obesity and lack of exercise has already been a concern in my mind as this is the topic of my research paper. I think television and media has a heavy weight on what kids do and don’t eat. Parents work hard at making their kids happy and want to buy what their kids want and the result of this is childhood obesity and lack of exercise. I think if the promotion wasn’t there from major companies this problem could decline in the long run.

society are supposed to have small petite appetities so they can eat

today’s society to eat as much as they desire, not giving any care to
their waste line expansion. Whether females are large or small they
would be looked down on if they even thought to eat anything close to
as much as males eat.

I don’t know how the change can be made with our society, but
someone needs to speak out and change the advertisements and television
commericials and add some variety because not every women is designed
to be pencil thin and not every man can eat enough to feed an army. As
I get older, I begin to realize more and more how high the expectations
are for the genders in our society.

I believe that Julie deliberately made assumptions and would them try to explain with her own supporting evidence. For example, she states that the Smokehouse is a ‘working class’ pub and then goes on to describe the people who are frequent attenders, mainly focusing on Jack, who she feels to be a representative example. She comments in particular on his political philopsophy and the way he supports candidates who “talk about jobs.”

As a bartender, you know who you clientele are, whether they are lower, middle, or even upper class depending on how big of a wallet they have. She interacts with a variety of people and will unintentionally judge them by their clothes, attricbutes, and they money they spend.
